The UCLA Labor Center hosted a social justice history bus tour of South Los Angeles. The tour, led by Labor Center Project Director Lola Smallwood-Cuevas, wound its way through the annals of Angeleno history, focusing on the contributions of working people.
Kicking off from UCLA, participants began with a visit to the vibrant community of Leimert Park. The tour continued to the Southern California Library, which houses numerous collections that bear testimony to sociopolitical movements in Los Angeles.
Author Henry Walton gave students a peek inside the historic Dunbar Hotel, a beacon of South L.A.'s Jazz Age. The
tour moved through alleyways of active sweatshops and concluded with a guided tour of the Watts Labor Community Action Committee Museum.
