As we enter the new year, we are launching “Friends of the Labor Center” to build support for the work of the UCLA Labor Center in recruiting and training a new generation of labor and social-justice leaders. The Labor Center has recruited and placed hundreds of social change agents who have improved the lives of workers and our communities.
This past year alone, former UCLA Labor Center interns:
- successfully organized the first two union car washes in Los Angeles;
- spearheaded “Dream Summer,” placing more than one hundred Dream Act
students with labor and community organizations across the country; - helped to launch the city’s first Black Worker Center;
- advocated for construction careers and green jobs in the building trades;
- and developed strong alliances between unions and worker centers to
support economic justice.
