 New Study on Impacts of COVID-19 on California Nail Salon Industry

On Thursday, November 18th, the UCLA Labor Center and the California Healthy Nail Salon Collaborative will release a new report, Reopening During COVID-19: The Experience of Nail Salon Workers and Owners in California.

Recent vaccine mandates are further reshaping the workplace for nail salon workers and owners who have faced financial and emotional strain during the pandemic due to cycles of openings and closings and higher occupational health risks.

Despite being a thriving multi-billion dollar industry pre-pandemic, there are limited studies concerning the impacts of COVID-19 on the nail salon sector. This timely report examines how California business owners and nail salon workers are navigating safely reopening amidst financial fragility, and identifies their needs for an equitable recovery.

Who: UCLA Labor Center and California Healthy Nail Salon Collaborative;
