A Conversation about the Santa Muerte in Mexico

A bilingual presentation (Spanish/English) by Wil G. Pansters about his forthcoming book, La Santa Muerte in Mexico: History, Devotion, and Society, University of New Mexico Press, expected fall 2019.

This volume examines the history of the cult of La Santa Muerte and how it can shed light on the rise and consolidation of drug trafficking cartels in Mexico.

Wil G. Pansters is professor at the Department of Cultural Anthropology at Utrecht University, The Netherlands. Between 2008 and 2018 he held a special chair in Latin American Studies at the University of Groningen. He has been a research fellow at El Colegio de México (1999), the University of Oxford (2010), and the University of Warwick amongst others (2017).
