About Labor Summer
Founded in 2022 and hosted by the UCLA Dream Resource Center, the Labor Summer Fellowship is an annual program that brings together young leaders and community organizations who share a vision for worker justice and labor rights. Student participants are matched with a host organization for an 8-week, full-time fellowship to complete projects that strengthen the intersection between the organization’s social justice mission and labor issues.
Throughout the summer, fellows engage with efforts to align labor rights issues with parallel fights for equity, including but not limited to those impacting queer and transgender communities, Asian and Pacific Islander communities, Black immigrant communities, the ongoing mass incarceration and criminalization of people of color, and health care access for all.
UCLA students are awarded $7,000 in recognition of their participation in the program. Additionally, students receive leadership and professional development training, a certificate of completion, and access to a UC statewide labor summer network.
Labor Summer 2023
Labor Summer opening and closing retreats for 2023 are set to take place in person. Host organizations will have their respective COVID-19 protocols in place and plans for working remotely, hybrid, or in person. If any changes happen during the course of the fellowship, staff will notify participants immediately to ensure the safety of everyone.
We will do our best to pair fellows with an organization that meets their preference of working remote, in-person, or hybrid; however, we cannot guarantee accommodations for fellows. Given the developing changes of COVID-19, we expect host organizations to accommodate the safety of our fellows. We will notify participants immediately of any changes.
